About the route.....April 25, 2010

For those of you not familiar with the south-land, here's some useful information as you prepare for the race. If you haven't started training, it's never too late - it's all in the mind! Having said that, the first thing you should know is it will be hot - afternoon sun - so make sure you are properly hydrated.

There will be a few small hills at the start of the 10K as we take you through the scenic route of Vance River Village. Then on to the main road pass K.T.O oil-sand quarry. There's a lovely stretch of straight flat road before you need to shift gears to first overcome a slight incline, then the 'monster' hill at Cochrane village. The organizers were thoughtful enough to place a water-stop just after the hill. From then on, it's plain sailing as the road meanders along through to Gonzales Village.

This is where the FUN starts - The TeaTime 5K Fun Walk/Run starts at Gonzales Village, near the Parrylands junction and is also your second water-stop. The route continues along the southern main road where you will meet Guides at the 'Dunlop' round-about to direct you. This is the first of three round-abouts along the route. There's a long stretch of road until you meet the Point Fortin East Secondary School and your third and final water stop.

You're on to the final stretch once you meet the Frisco round-about.Tiredness is not an option as you are almost there. Straight ahead, you will be within sight of the KFC round-about, where a left turn takes you to the Finish Line at Point Fortin Market Square! You will be re-energized by the festive atmosphere as the DJ, Live Steel Pan and the sounds of children playing with Cartoon characters and Bouncy Castle greet you.

To your left will be the Athlete's tent where fruits, Gatorade and other refreshments await. Enjoy the moment, for you are a champion! ...which by the way, is our theme song 'we are the champions......of the world'.
